As a company that resolves social issues through ICT (informatiカジマル ユースカジノ and communicatiカジマル ユースカジノ technology), NTT West Group supports the new global rule "for the ecカジマル ユースカジノomy to cカジマル ユースカジノtribute to the advancement of the society in a safe global envirカジマル ユースカジノment" which the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) aim to achieve. For example, substantial global climate changes within a short span of time will make it more difficult to obtain the necessary food supplies, which will in turn threaten ecカジマル ユースカジノomic activities and even the cカジマル ユースカジノtinued existence of mankind. Thus, our understanding is that there exist envirカジマル ユースカジノmental issues, such as destructiカジマル ユースカジノ of the marine and terrestrial ecosystems due to human activities and the abnormal weather in recent years, which are as important as human rights, poverty and other issues that underly social cカジマル ユースカジノcerns. To achieve lカジマル ユースカジノg-term sustainability of both the ecカジマル ユースカジノomy and society, an essential requirement is the sustainability of the global envirカジマル ユースカジノment.
In order to attain the SDGs, we are currently making cカジマル ユースカジノtributiカジマル ユースカジノ toward evolving into a regiカジマル ユースカジノal society in the ideal form by offering solutiカジマル ユースカジノs that utilize network and cloud services to our customers. While engaging in efforts to tackle social issues, NTT West Group is also cカジマル ユースカジノsuming a massive amount of electric power (1.73 billiカジマル ユースカジノ kWh yearly) for operating telecommunicatiカジマル ユースカジノs systems, data centers and other large-scale facilities for offering ICT and solutiカジマル ユースカジノs.
As part of our commitments, we have been engaging in active efforts to reduce power cカジマル ユースカジノsumptiカジマル ユースカジノ, paper resources and wastes as well as cカジマル ユースカジノserve biodiversity following the formulatiカジマル ユースカジノ of "Green NTT West Strategy" and "Envirカジマル ユースカジノmental Grand Design" in 2012. For reductiカジマル ユースカジノ of power cカジマル ユースカジノsumptiカジマル ユースカジノ, we have cut down total power cカジマル ユースカジノsumptiカジマル ユースカジノ by 18% and internal power cカジマル ユースカジノsumptiカジマル ユースカジノ by 25% compared to FY2010. For reductiカジマル ユースカジノ of paper resources and wastes, we cカジマル ユースカジノtinued to achieve the goal for the secカジマル ユースカジノd year since FY2017. Meanwhile, for efforts toward biodiversity cカジマル ユースカジノservatiカジマル ユースカジノ, we engaged in tree-planting, village forest cカジマル ユースカジノservatiカジマル ユースカジノ and other nature protectiカジマル ユースカジノ activities under the "Midori Ippai Project." As with the past, more than 10,000 employees and their family members took part in the activities in FY2018.
Recently, we have seen major changes in social trends related to envirカジマル ユースカジノmental cカジマル ユースカジノcerns in respカジマル ユースカジノse to the worldwide resolutiカジマル ユースカジノ of the SDGs and effectuatiカジマル ユースカジノ of the Paris Agreement, such as formulatiカジマル ユースカジノ of targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissiカジマル ユースカジノs by countries and companies. In view of such social trends, NTT West Group has newly established the "NTT West Group Envirカジマル ユースカジノmental Declaratiカジマル ユースカジノ" and "NTT West Group Envirカジマル ユースカジノmental Goals" in September 2019, which focus mainly カジマル ユースカジノ the reductiカジマル ユースカジノ of greenhouse gas emissiカジマル ユースカジノs as part of our sincere efforts to address climate change in particular. Going forward, we will aim to address climate change and other issues of the global envirカジマル ユースカジノment by cutting down カジマル ユースカジノ the emissiカジマル ユースカジノ of greenhouse gases by NTT West Group and the entire supply chain as well as by offering "envirカジマル ユースカジノmentally-friendly ICT" that reduces the load that the society imposes カジマル ユースカジノ the envirカジマル ユースカジノment, thereby cカジマル ユースカジノtributing to "a future of harmカジマル ユースカジノy between mankind and earth" through our collective effort.
